Complete Vascular Ring Caused by Kommerell's Diverticulum and Right Aortic Arch with Mirror Image Branching

Abstract: Vascular ring, caused by Kommerell's diverticulum and ligamentum arteriosum, in a patient with right aortic arch and mirror image branching is extremely rare. A 10-month-old boy with coughing and stridor was diagnosed as having tracheo-esophageal stenosis, which is caused by a vascular ring with Kommerell's diverticulum, ligamentum arteriosum, right aortic arch, and mirror image branching. Kommerell's diverticulum was successfully resected via a left thoracotomy. The patient has been free from tracheo-esophage… Show more

“…In 2 cases of suspected DAA with LSCA distal atresia, although the atresia segment could not be directly displayed on ultrasound, the diagnosis of this disease was suggested according to the abnormal structural features in ultrasound (Fig. 3) consistent with those reported in the literature [5][6][7][8]. CTA and bronchoscopy were performed in the 2 cases, which confirmed the existence of tracheal compression stenosis and further supported the ultrasonic diagnosis.…”

“…In this second type, the left subclavian artery is typically aberrant. Instead, complete vascular rings caused by a right aortic arch with mirror image of the branching of originating arteries are very rare [23][24][25]. In this type of malformation, the left subclavian artery originates from a normal location, as in the clinical case reported herewith.…”
