Complete mitochondrial genome of the Korean ikonnikov’s batMyotis ikonnikovi(Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae)

Abstract: We have characterized the complete mitochondrial genome of a Korean ikonnikov's bat species, Myotis ikonnikovi. Total length of the mitogenome is 16,585 bp with a total base composition of 34.0% A, 30.4% T, 22.8% C and 12.8% G. The mitogenome consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA (12S and 16S RNA) genes, 22 tRNA genes and 1 control region. The mitogenome of M. ikonnikovi exhibited similar features compared with the previously determined mitogenome of a Myotis species, M. formosus. The results will contri… Show more

“…The order and orientation of these genes are identical to those in other bat species (Kim et al, 2011;Nam et al, 2013;Yoon et al, 2013;Wang et al, 2014). On a map of the circular mitogenome of H. alaschanicus (Figure 1), nine genes (Nd6 and eight tRNAs) are located on the light strand (L strand), while the other 29 genes (12 PCGs, 14 tRNAs, and two rRNAs) are located on the heavy strand (H strand).…”

“…The order and orientation of these genes are identical to those other mammalian species (Kim and Park 2012;Yoon et al 2013;Nam et al 2015). The mitogenome of M. leucurus is ATbiased, with a nucleotide composition of 33.1% A, 27.9% T, 25.4% C, and 13.5% G.…”

“…The voucher specimen (MUMELE-1) was deposited in the National Park Research Institute, Korea National Park Service. Genomic DNA extraction, PCR, and gene annotation were conducted according to the previous studies (Yoon et al 2013;Jeon and Park 2015;Rahman et al 2016). Previously published mitogenomes of the Eurasian M. meles (AM711900) (Arnason et al 2007) and Japanese M. anakuma (AB291075) (Yonezawa et al 2007) were used as references for gene annotation and primer design for PCR amplification of the Korean M. leucurus.…”

Genomic DNA extraction, PCR, and gene annotation were conducted according to the previous studies (Yoon et al 2013;Jeon and Park 2015;Rahman et al 2016). Previously published mitogenomes of Indian P. coromandra (KP688404) and Japanese P. abramus (NC_005436) were used as references for gene annotation and primer design for PCR amplification of the Korean P. abramus mitogenome.…”

“…TAA is most common stop codon, which is used for termination of all the other seven PCGs. The replication origin O L is 35 bp in size and located between tRNA Asn and tRNA Cys within the WANCY tRNA cluster as seen in most vertebrates (Kim and Park 2012;Yoon et al 2013;Nam et al 2015;Rahman et al 2016).…”
