Complete mitochondrial genome of Relict Gull, Larus relictus (Charadriiformes: Laridae)

Abstract: The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Larus relictus was 16,586-bp long, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and a control region. Most PCGs begin with the typical ATN start codon with the exception of COI and ND5 genes, which use GTG as the initiation codon. Stop codons AGG, TAG, TAA and AGA are present in the PCGs; exceptions are COIII and ND4, which possess incomplete termination codons (T), and ND3, in which one extra C nucleotide is found. Secondary structure pr… Show more

“…Gallus gallus was selected as the outgroup. The resulting tree shows similar relationships to previous studies (Nishibori et al 2003;Yamamoto et al 2005;Slack et al 2006;Slack et al 2007;Gibb et al 2013;Lounsberry et al 2015;Han et al 2016;Eo and An 2016;Kim and Park 2016;Yang et al 2016;Thomas et al 2017;Zhang et al 2017).…”

“…On the whole-genome level, genome sequencing technology is usually used to characterize genetic variations and acquire comprehensive molecular characterizations [8]. At present, only limited genetic information, regarding mitochondrial markers and population structures, is available for L. relictus [2,4,9,10], as well as dispersal and migration information [3]. However, no genome information for L. relictus has been published, which limits our understanding of the evolutionary and molecular mechanisms of some signi cant processes.…”

“…The primers were designed based on sequence-conserved regions, which were identified using multiple alignments of the complete mitogenomes of Chroicocephalus brunnicephalus, Larus dominicanus, Ichthyaetus relictus, Synthliboramphus antiquus, Arenaria interpres, and Haematopus ater, which are available in GenBank (Paton et al, 2002;Yamamoto et al, 2005;Slack et al, 2007;Yang et al, 2012Yang et al, , 2014 (Table 1). PCR amplification using the primer pairs newly designed for this study (Suppl.…”

“…Of these, four mitogenomes were sequenced from species in the suborder Lari (Laridae and Alcidae), with the other two being sequenced from species in the suborders Scolopaci (Scolopacidae) and Charadrii (Haematopodidae) (Paton et al, 2002;Yamamoto et al, 2005;Slack et al, 2007;Yang et al, 2012Yang et al, , 2014.…”
