Complete genome sequence of a novel nege-like virus in aphids (genus Indomegoura)

Abstract: Background Aphids are important vectors of numerous plant viruses. Besides plant viruses, a number of insect specific viruses (ISVs), such as nege/nege-like viruses, have been recently discovered in aphids of the genera Aphis, Rhopalosiphum, and Sitobion. Findings In this study, the complete genome sequence of a novel nege-like virus, tentatively named “Indomegoura nege-like virus 1” (INLV1), was identified in aphids of the genus Indomegoura. INLV1… Show more

“…The assembly of the 11.7 kb contig was accomplished from 3,865 reads, with an average sequencing depth of 34X. A significantly higher read count was identified at the 3’ end ( Fig 1 ), as recently observed in Indomegoura nege‐like virus 1 (INLV1) [ 14 ] and Astegopteryx formosana nege-like virus (AFNLV) [ 42 ]. This study focuses on the genomic analysis of this novel negevirus-like sequence, hereby designated as whitefly negevirus 1 (WfNgV1).…”

“…To solve this issue, exploring RNAi approaches using endogenous aphid viruses that can be vertically transmitted to progeny as VIGS vectors may be a more stable approach. Next-generation sequencing has identified many potential aphid viruses (Kondo et al 2020;Chang et al 2021;Qi…”
