Complete and Draft Genome Sequences of Six Members of the Aquificales

Abstract: The Aquificales are widespread in marine and terrestrial hydrothermal environments. Here, we report the complete and draft genome sequences of six new members of the Aquificales: two marine species, Persephonella marina strain EX-H1 and Hydrogenivirga strain 128-5-R1 (from the East Pacific Rise, 9°50.3N, 104°17.5W, and the Eastern Lau Spreading Center, 176°11.5W, 20°45.8S, respectively), and four terrestrial isolates, Sulfurihydrogenibium azorense strain Az-Fu1, Sulfurihydrogenibium yellowstonense strain SS-5,… Show more

“…All Campylobacter species for which genome sequence data are available, along with the related species Wolinella succinogenes (2), contain pglB orthologues, with three phylogenetically related Campylobacter species (Campylobacter concisus, Campylobacter curvus, and Campylobacter gracilis) containing two pglB orthologues. A number of environmental species from the Deltaproteobacteria and Epsilonproteobacteria, including sulfate-reducing bacteria and species isolated from deep-sea thermal vents, also contain pglB orthologues (4,27,33,36).…”

“…Other bacterial groups in which all autotrophic members are believed to use the rTCA cycle are the Aquificales and the Epsilonproteobacteria. Enzymatic evidence has been obtained for several strains of Aquificales and Epsilonproteobacteria (Shiba et al 1985;Beh et al 1993;Hügler et al 2005Hügler et al , 2007Takai et al 2005), and the sequenced genomes also provide evidence for the comprehensive use of this pathway in these groups (Deckert et al 1998, Nakagawa et al 2007, Sievert et al 2008b, Reysenbach et al 2009). The operation of the rTCA cycle has also been reported for members of other bacterial groups, including the magnetotactic Alphaproteobacterium Magnetococcus sp.…”
