Objective: Although its roots go back centuries, there is still a demand for traditional medicine practices and it is important to know the opinion of the society and healthcare professionals about the subject. Our study aims to determine the attitudes of healthcare professional and non-healthcare hospital staff about traditional medicine. Material-Method: A two-stage questionnaire, a demographic information section, and the Complementary, Alternative, and Conventional Medicine Attitudes Scale (CACMAS) was used to collect the data. Descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov Smirnov, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and chi-square tests were used to analyze the data. Results: A total of 681 staff of nine public and private hospitals participated in the study. 65.4% (n=439) of the participants were healthcare professionals, 34.6% (n=232) were non-healthcare professionals. The mean scores of the healthcare professional respondents were 92.6 (±16.7), of the non-healthcare professional respondents were 126.1 (±11.7). Conclusion:In our study, it was found that healthcare professionals' attitudes towards traditional medicine practices were more negative than non-healthcare professionals. However, as according to the current legislation in many countries around the world, only physicians who receive standard training and other healthcare professionals under their supervision are authorized to perform traditional medicine practices in Turkey. As a result of our study, it was determined that the attitudes of healthcare professionals and other segments of the society should be observed about traditional medicine practices and that measures should be taken to bring together the supply and demand for traditional medicine on a legal basis.

Background: In the ages when modern medicine did not exist yet, people developed some methods to treat their diseases with their own efforts. These treatment methods consist of empirical applications based on experience and knowledge developed in the light of centuries of experience and transferred from generation to generation. Although it lost its old effect and wide application area with the development of modern medicine, folk medicine still exists today. Aim: Examining the attitudes and behaviors of people towards modern and traditional medicine practices by taking demographic and individual differences as reference during the Covid-19 epidemic. The data set of this study was obtained through a questionnaire applied on 396 individuals living in Erzurum city center in 2021. Reliability Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (RACFA), Chi-square test, independent sample t test and ANOVA test were used within the scope of the study. Results: As the access to modern medicine increases and the learning styles of generations differ, the application dimension of traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) weakens. On the other hand, the level of satisfaction with modern medicine also changes in parallel with expectations. The significant relationships between the variables in the study findings focus on questions related to modern medicine. A significant relationship was found between the intellectual perspective to traditional and complementary medicine sub-dimension and the presence of people who had Covid-19 in the close circle of the participants. Conclusion: It has been determined that individuals see traditional and complementary medicine as complementary rather than an alternative to modern medicine, and although they have above-average theoretical knowledge, their application aspects are weak. ÖZET Amaç: Pediatri hemşirelerinin geleneksel ve tamamlayıcı tıp uygulamalarına yönelik bilgi ve tutumlarının incelenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Araştırmanın evrenini, bir çocuk hastanesinde çalışan 178 hemşire, örneklemini çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 117 (%65,7) hemşire oluşturmuştur. Çalışma kesitsel tanımlayıcı tipte bir araştırma olup, veriler 01.06.2019-01.08.2019 tarihleri arasında toplanmıştır. Araştırmada, "Hemşire Tanıtım Formu", "Geleneksel ve Tamamlayıcı Tıp Uygulamaları Bilgi Formu" ve "Geleneksel ve Tamamlayıcı Tıp Tutum Ölçeği" kullanılarak veri toplanmıştır. Veri analizinde sayı, yüzde, ortalama, standart sapma, Mann-Whitney U testi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan hemşirelerin yaş ortalaması 31,05±7,80 yıl olup; %62'si lisans mezunu, %91,5'i kadın ve %47'si 1-5 yıl arasında çocuk servisinde çalışmaktadır. Pediatri hemşirelerinin geleneksel ve tamamlayıcı tıp yöntemlerinden en çok bildikleri ilk 5 yöntemin; dua/namaz (%10,6), masaj (%10,4), yoga (%10) akupunktur (%8,7) ve refleksoloji (%6,8) olduğu belirlenmiştir. Hemşirelerin %26,9'unun geleneksel ve tamamlayıcı tıp uygulamalarından masajı uyguladıkları, %23,3'ünün hasta çocuk ve ailelerine masajı önerdiği saptanmıştır. Hemşirelerin %42,2'si hastanede yatan çocuk ve ailelerinin dua/namazı kullandıklarını gözledikleri belirlenmiştir. Pediatri hemşirelerinin geleneksel tamamlayıcı tıp tutum ölçeği toplam puan ortalamalarının 112,01±20,07 olduğu belirlenmiştir. Çocuk kliniğinde severek çalışan ve geleneksel ve tamamlayıcı tıp uygulamalarını çocuk hasta ve ailelerine öneren hemşirelerin ölçek toplam puan ortalamalarının daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir (p<0,05).
