Comparison tests for the determination of the viscosity values of reference liquids by capillary viscometers and stabinger viscometer SVM 3001

Abstract: The present study was realized for measuring viscosities of reference liquids using capillary viscometers and Stabinger viscometer SVM 3001 with viscosity interval between 1 mm2/s and 5000 mm2/s with temperatures from 20 °C to 80 °C. Based on our measurement with various liquids, we determine the viscosity values and compare both of the results. The aim of this study to evaluate the results of the primary level viscosity measurement system and stabinger viscometer and to compare the measurement results due to … Show more

“…Generally, the kinematic viscosity of the oil is measured by using a capillary viscometer, where the kinematic viscosity is calculated by measuring the time taken for a specic oil volume to ow through a calibrated glass capillary under a specied pressure differential. 28,29 This suggests that when the oil exhibits high kinematic viscosity, it experiences a prolonged ow duration and requires more time to restructure the pores of the membrane. This indicates the delay in the closing time of the silicone oil due to its high kinematic viscosity.…”

“…The relative uncertainty value of each oil viscosity was calculated according to references [ 11 , 30 , 31 , 32 ]. The expanded uncertainty was calculated by multiplying the relative uncertainty by the coverage factor k = 2 to derive the 95% confidence interval.…”

“…Oil viscosity has an impact on the operation of an internal combustion engine, because [20][21][22] the maintenance of liquid friction and the reduction of wear of two mating surfaces strictly depend on viscosity-too low viscosity causes the loss of liquid friction, and leads to an increase in wear of the two elements. Furthermore, the amount of energy and losses to overcome friction depend on viscosity-high viscosity increases the energy needed to overcome friction.…”
