Comparison on torsional mesh stiffness and contact ratio of involute internal gear and high contact ratio internal gear

Abstract: The mesh stiffness and contact ratio of gear drive are very important factors which have a great impact on the dynamic load. Contact ratio also affects the fluctuation and the mode of change of the mesh stiffness. In this research, a novel high contact ratio internal gear with a circular arc contact path is introduced. However, the irregular tooth profile of non-involute gear usually causes the numerical calculation to be more complex. To get the torsional mesh stiffness of a pair of internal spur gear, the tw… Show more

“…In this paper, the tooth profiles meshed with the addendum tooth profile of the internal gear and pinion are selected as the dedendum tooth profiles of the pinion and internal gear, respectively. The dedendum tooth profile of the pinion and internal gear are defined through Equations ( 4) and ( 5) [23,24]:…”

“…The contact ratio is an important index to indicate the smoothness and the uniformity of the gear system's transmission load [1]. By increasing the addendum coefficient, enhancing the number of teeth, reducing the pressure angle, and adjusting the modification coefficient, an involute spur gear with a contact ratio greater than two can be obtained, called high-contact-ratio spur gear [2].…”

“…This enhances endurance life and the load carrying capacity of HCR gear compared to NCR for same weight and volume. Recent studies 42, 43 states the necessity of HCR drives but only limited studies are available in the literature with regard to HCR drives. Individually the performance studies of HCR drives are available in literature for calculating the stress, profile modifications, dynamic responses but estimation of the gear loss factor for a profile modified HCR spur gears is yet to be studied.…”
