“…The study of NRY markers highlighted a high Native American component in the paternal lineages, as can be inferred from the genetic affinity of Jujuy subpopulations with other South Amerindian samples from surrounding communities (see Figure ). Predominance of the Native American genetic background in Jujuy has been reported in previous works based on a variety of genetic markers: autosomal loci, such as immunoglobulin allotypes, serum polymorphisms (Dipierri et al, ), polymorphic Alu insertions (Gómez‐Pérez et al, ), STRs of human chromosome 6 (Gómez‐Pérez et al, ), and uniparentally inherited markers, such as Y‐STRs (Bianchi et al, ), Y‐chromosome haplogroups (Altuna et al, ; Ramallo et al, ), and mitochondrial DNA lineages (Cardoso et al, ). All these findings contribute pieces of evidence for the high degree of conservation of the Amerindian gene pool in the zone (Bailliet et al, ; Cardoso et al, ; Gómez‐Pérez et al, ).…”
