Comparison of volatile chemical components of Cystoseira crinita Duby by hydrodistillation(HD) and solid-phase microextraction (SPME) methods and antimicrobialand scolicidal activities of essential oil and extracts

Abstract: This study aims to derive an essential oil from Cystoseira crinita Duby, analyze the chemical composition of the essential oil, discover the antimicrobial activities of the oil and the extracts, and investigate the scolicidal activities of the extracts. The volatile organic compounds of Cystoseira crinita Duby were determined by GC/MS-FID using both hydro-distillation (HD) and solid-phase microextraction (SPME) methods. As a result of the essential oil analysis, 97… Show more

“…[43] In addition, Karaman et al (2022) reported that the Cystoseria barbata, a brown algae, can be used as a scolicidal agent, while Yücel (2022) reported the same for Cystoseira crinita, which is also a brown algae. [22,23] It was observed that the scolicidal effect of organic solvent extracts of U. rigida prepared in chloroform, dichloromethane, hexane and methanol increased over time. In addition, it was found that the scolicidal effect changed depending on the extract doses and the parasite viability decreased as the extract dose increased.…”

“…There are studies in the literature establishing the bactericidal and scolicidal effects of the extracts of Cystoseria (C.) barbata and C. crinata, which are brown algae. [22,23] But, no studies were found on the essential oil analysis and scolicidal activity of the Ulva species.…”
