Comparison of Visual Function after Implantation of Inferior Sector-Shaped Intraocular Lenses: Low-add +1.5 D vs +3.0 D

Abstract: Inferior sector-shaped, near-addition IOLs with lower add powers (+1.5 D) provide good vision over longer working distances and show fewer glare and halo symptoms.

“…Objective in vitro studies were carried out in different eye models, which may be the reason for dissimilarities in the proposed formulae, but still, they illustrate well the high correlation between MTFA-based metrics and clinically measured VA. Figure 6 shows TF MTFA curves based on measurements in our optical bench. According to the published results of clinical trials, Lentis Mplus, AT Lisa and PanOptix allow to get VA better than 0.2 logMAR for defocus up to 3.0-3.5 D [19,20,28,30,32,38]. In the case of the Tecnis Symfony, the same VA values correspond to the smaller defocus up to 2-2.5 D [31,34].…”

“…Despite of its bifocality, Lentis Mplus can restore distance, intermediate and near visual function with substantially reduced photic phenomena such as glare and halos [15,16]. Different papers about Lentis Mplus have been published, including reports on in vitro results and clinical outcomes [17][18][19][20][21].…”

“…Since the CONCERTO study used monovision approach with multifocal IOL [9], to overcome the limitations of available IOLs, efforts have been made to expand the range of vision by implanting different types of multifocal IOLs in each eye of a subject [10]. Several studies have reported a good range of vision after bilateral mixand-match implantation of multifocal IOLs [2,11,12]. However, studies that evaluate clinical outcomes after implantation of diffractive multifocal IOLs with different add powers are scarce.…”

“…7 Several studies have reported a good range of vision after bilateral mix-and-match implantation of multifocal IOLs. [8][9][10] However, studies that evaluate clinical outcomes after implantation of diffractive multifocal IOLs with different add powers are scarce. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate clinical outcomes after implantation of TECNIS® IOLs with near addition powers of +2.75 diopters (D) in the dominant eye and +4.00 D in the nondominant eye.…”
