Comparison of two immunoassay procedures for detecting enterovirus IgM

Abstract: Enteroviruses cause significant illness in man but viral diagnosis is problematic. Enterovirus-specific IgM tests have been developed but due to the difficulties of obtaining reliable control sera the interpretation of assay data remains mainly arbitrary and empirical. The present study was undertaken to assess the reliability of such assays by comparing two tests performed independently in two different laboratories: a mu-capture radioimmunoassay (MACRIA) which utilizes 35S-labelled Coxsackie virus antigens a… Show more

“…In addition, they e ciently formed colonies in soft agar, revealing a fully transformed phenotype (see Table 4). In sharp contrast, coexpression of c-rel and v-rel in ®broblasts resulted in decreased cell growth, consistent with our previous study which showed that v-Rel and c-Rel interfere with the DNA binding properties of each other (Hodgson and Enrietto, 1995).…”

“…Many of the studies described above comparing the DNA-binding properties of Rel proteins were performed with in vitro-synthesized Rel proteins, and it is important to remember that v-Rel exists in multiple and dynamic DNA-binding complexes in cells (Hodgson and Enrietto, 1995;Hrdlickova et al, 1995a;Kabrun et al, 1991;Kochel and Rice, 1992). Transactivation by v-Rel C-terminal transactivation domains The C-terminal deletion in v-Rel removes a strong transactivation domain of c-Rel (Kamens et al, 1990;Richardson and Gilmore, 1991).…”

“…The coxsackievirus B1-based antibody-capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for detecting enterovirus infection was developed [Katze and Crowell, 1980;Frisk et al, 1989;Boman et al, 1992;Glimaker et al, 1992;Swanink et al, 1993;Hodgson et al, 1995]. This method can detect antibodies against a broad range of enteroviruses.…”
