Comparison of Therapeutic Effects of Topical Application of Diclofenac Sodium Nanoparticles and Conventional Placebo on Knee Osteoarthritis

Abstract: The objective of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of diclofenac sodium nanoparticles and traditional placebo on Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA). 80 KOA patients admitted to the Inpatient Department of Orthopedics of Sunshine Union Hospital from June 2020 to July 2021 were selected, and divided into 40 cases using diclofenac sodium nano flexible liposomes topically (study group) and 40 cases using conventional placebo topically (control group). The two groups were compared for knee swelling, knee… Show more

“…Knee osteoarthritis (OA) stands as a prevalent and clinically significant inflammatory disease, primarily characterized by the progressive degradation of articular cartilage and subchondral bone (1,2). The ramifications of knee OA extend beyond mere physical discomfort, often giving rise to persistent pain, rest-related discomfort, and limitations in the flexion and extension of the knee joint, collectively exerting a profound impact on the overall quality of life for affected individuals (3,4). With its escalating incidence year by year, particularly in the middle-aged and elderly demographic, knee OA poses a growing health concern, exacerbated by the global trend of population aging (5).…”

“…In recent years, ultrasound-guided joint injection therapy has been developed as a treatment option for KOA. This therapy involves injecting specific drugs into the patient's joints under ultrasound guidance, which has been shown to effectively relieve pain and stiffness symptoms associated with KOA [5]. As a new type of drug, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) promotes tissue repair and analgesia by using a patient's own platelet concentrate obtained by centrifuging autologous whole blood.…”
