“…Our present understanding of LP retrieval is derived from results of limited animal studies and human data. [51][52][53][54] The retrieval procedure for the Nanostim LP has been standardized. A dedicated retrieval catheter and snare system is advanced via the femoral vein to the RV.…”

“…When the snare grasps the docking button of the pacemaker, the protective sleeve is advanced halfway over the device. 54 The retrieval catheter is then aligned with the device and rotated counterclockwise to unscrew its helix. 54 In contrast, retrieval of the Micra LP is more variable.…”

“…Most experience has been gained by retrievals of the Nanostim LCP due to the medical device advisory on battery failure 20,52,53 . The most common reasons for retrieval were need for a device upgrade to an Cardiac resynchronization therapy ‐ Defibrillator (ICD/CRT‐D) and battery failure for Nanostim and VHPTs/loss of capture for Micra 49 .…”

“…The most common reasons for retrieval were need for a device upgrade to an Cardiac resynchronization therapy ‐ Defibrillator (ICD/CRT‐D) and battery failure for Nanostim and VHPTs/loss of capture for Micra 49 . In a recent comparative study, 53 while 50% of Micra TPS retrievals were early with a median time to extraction of 46 days, 100% of Nanostim LP retrievals were late: they had a median time to extraction of 256 days and a maximum of 4 years. Difference in retrieval success rates appeared to favor Micra over Nanostim (100% vs 90%, P = .049), even if direct comparison is not appropriate due to the significant differences in time to extraction.…”
