Comparison of the obturator nerve block performed blinded according to the anatomical signs and ultrasound-guided obturator nerve block in patients undergoing transurethral resection: randomized controlled trial

Abstract

BACKGROUNDː It has been reported that obturator nerve block application before transurethral resection operation in bladder lateral wall tumors provides a safer surgical field and reduces tumor recurrence and complete resection of the tumor. Due to the different anatomical structure of the obturator nerve, obturator nerve block (ONB) can be performed with different methods. METHODSː A total of 122 patients, 22 females with a mean age of 56.63 ± 12.99 and 100 males with a mean age of 63.18 ± 8.00, were included in our study. ONB was performed under ultrasound guidance by the same anesthesiologist in the first group, and ONB was performed according to anatomical signs blindly in the second group by the same urology doctor. RESULTSːIn group 1, in 53 cases it was observed with Absence of Spasm, and in 5 cases Spasm was present. On the other hand, in group 2, in 49 cases Spasm was absent, whereas, in 15 cases spasm was present. CONCLUSIONSː As a conclusion there was a significant relationship between groups on spasm.
