Comparison of the Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet Capsulotomy Rate with Viscoimplantation and the Hydroimplantation Intraocular Lens Technique

Abstract: Purpose To investigate the rate of neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser capsulotomy in the hydroimplantation intraocular lens (IOL) technique. Methods This retrospective study was comprised of 6,192 eyes in 3,790 patients who underwent surgery from January 2013 to September 2017 and then were followed up for at least 1 year. The eyes of these patients were divided into two groups: either viscoimplantation or hydroimplantation. The follow-up examination… Show more

“…No significant difference was observed in BCVA at the end of the study between the two groups (0.02 and 0.03 LogMAR in the OVD and control groups, respectively, P = 0.333), which supports the findings by Oğurel et al . [ 19 ] No changes in PCO morphology were observed in the two study groups.…”

“…[ 17 18 ] Moreover, Oğurel et al . [ 19 ] postulated that the irrigation fluid injected between the IOL and posterior capsule creates a jet flow, which removes LECs from the equatorial area. IOL rotation caused in the absence of OVD draws LECs and remnant lens fibers from the equatorial area and posterior capsule, respectively, mechanically, which reduces the PCO rate.…”
