This article discusses the issue of flood disaster polemics in online media using McKerrow’s critical rhetorical theory analysis, with the main aim of getting closer to discourse formations that have not been discussed in previous research on political interest contestation. This research uses Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis method to reveal flood news articles from 2019-2021 on Tirto.id. Meanwhile, the Foucauldian perspective in this study is used as a review of McKerrow’s critical rhetoric to analyze power, right and truth. Furthermore, this triangulation is explained in two criticisms, namely, criticism of domination and freedom in the online media Tirto.id in reporting on the flood. This study found that in terms of power, Tirto.id discusses criticism of power as a struggle for power in the social status of the upper and lower middle classes. Dominance tends to appear in social disparities and discrepancies in the effects of development on poor communities and the surrounding ecosystem. In terms of rights, Tirto.id discusses demands for ecological justice for lower middle class society. Finally, in terms of truth, the discourse about flood victims includes the lower classes as a result of land grabbing. This study concludes that criticism of domination shows that the government is not very serious about the concept of ecological justice for all groups. Criticism of freedom shows that Tirto.id expresses satire that floods are only suffered by poor people, not rich people.

The existence Constitutional Court decision regarding the requirements for registering Candidates for President and Vice President Republic of Indonesia has caused a number of controversies in society today. An issue Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Mayor of Surakarta, will take part in the 2024 Presidential Election as Candidate Vice President. However, the age threshold criterian 40 years is an obstacle for the son of President Joko Widodo. So, this was done by suing the Constitutional Court to revise the criteria for presidential election participants, especially regarding minimum age. This raises big questions regarding President Jokowi's relationship with the political dynasty, which made the controversial phenomenon increasingly discussed by the media. For this reason, this research uses a qualitative descriptive research method using a critical discourse analysis approach modeled by Teun A.Van Dijk analyzing text in Najwa Shihab's podcast with the title "Putusan MK: Palu Hakim Patah Berkeping" with a duration of 27 minutes 36 seconds which was uploaded on October 18, 2023, on Najwa Shihab's Youtube channel. The podcast discussion criticized the judge's decision which was interfered with by political interests. The results of the research show that democratic order is now increasingly shifting to the power held by political elites who are in power so that power they have can change laws and slowly break the spirit of democracy in Indonesia

Political discourse on the 2019 Indonesian presidential election has been studied from a variety of linguistic viewpoints. However, the pros and cons discourse on Joko Widodo's coalition with Prabowo in spite of their rivalry has not been examined through critical discourse analysis. This study aims to explore the text structure, social cognition, and social context of the pros dan cons discourse as the theme of Mata Najwa talk show. This is a kind of qualitative analytical research using van Dijk’s (1996, 2015) critical discourse analysis framework. The data comprised utterances of the talk show participants examined through three levels of analysis: description of text structure, interpretation of social cognition, and explanation of social context. The study found the use of macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure as textual elements that support the discourse theme. Meanwhile, the theme selection is influenced by the host’s ideology that serves the theme's pro-coalition stance. The social context underlying the discourse production is the representation of Joko Widodo, who utilized his power to forge a coalition with the opponents through political bargaining. The implication of this study is to increase public awareness on the importance of critically viewing political news so that the negative excesses of political propaganda do not easily provoke them through mass media.
