Comparison of the ICIQ-SF and 24-hour pad test with other measures for evaluating the severity of urodynamic stress incontinence

Abstract: This study compared the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF) and the 24-h pad test with other measures that assess severity of urinary loss in women with urodynamic stress incontinence (USI). Ninety-five women with primary or recurrent (secondary) USI were recruited. Assessment of the severity of urinary loss was made using the ICIQ-SF, a 24-h pad test, continence questionnaire, Stamey grade, and 3-day frequency volume diary. The relationship between these measures of i… Show more

“…It was possible to calculate the ICIQ incontinence score for 1922 women (99.0%), of whom 815 (42.0%) reported UI (score ≥1). Among the women classified as incontinent, the mean ICIQ score was 7.6 (AE4.1); UI severity was considered to be slight for 305 women (ICIQ score between 1 and 5), moderate for 397 women (score 6-12), severe for 97 women (score [13][14][15][16][17][18], and very severe for 16 women (score [19][20][21]. Just over half of the women (57%) reported leaks of urine every day.…”

“…The ICIQ-SF score is calculated from the answers to these three questions; it ranges between 0 and 21 and is correlated with the pad test. 13 For this study, we considered that a woman was continent if she had a zero score, and incontinent if she had any positive score. Severity of UI was classified as slight, moderate, severe or very severe according to the classification suggested by Klovning et al 14 The ICIQ-SF includes a series of questions concerning the circumstances in which urine leakage occurs.…”

“…Nas respostas específicas do questionário ICIQ-SF para a avaliação da incontinência urinária, verificou-se que das 22 participantes do estudo, sete (31,8%) relataram diversas perdas urinárias ao dia e cinco (22,7%) 20 Independentemente da quantidade de perda urinária, a doença se torna estressante e debilitante, contribuindo para o isolamento social e depressão.
