Comparison of the expression and function of Lin28A and Lin28B in colon cancer

Abstract: Lin28A and Lin28B are highly conserved RNA binding proteins with similar structure and functions. Recent studies demonstrated that both of them act as oncogenes and promote cancer progression. However, few researches compared the expression and functions of both oncogenes in human malignant tumors at same time. Additionally, although the expression and role of Lin28B in colon cancer is frequently reported, the expression and functions of Lin28A in colon cancer are largely unknown. In this study, we have system… Show more

“…LIN28A overexpression is associated with tumor progression in colon cancer [ 39 ]. LIN28A was found to be upregulated in breast cancer and enhanced tumor growth and progression via regulation of c-myc signaling; LIN28A knockdown decreased tumor malignancy [ 40 ].…”

“…Lin28B belongs to the Lin28 protein family, including its paralog Lin28A [23] . Lin28A and Lin28B are highly conserved RNA binding proteins with similar structure and functions [23] . It is worth noting that one major difference between Lin28A and Lin28B is that Lin28B predominantly resides in the nucleus, whereas Lin28A exclusively resides in the cytoplasm [24] .…”

“…Silencing of LIN28B in CRC cells induced apoptosis via upregulating let‐7c‐targeting of antiapoptotic BCL2L1 (H. Zhang et al, ). LIN28A was also upregulated in ~70% of CRC patients, which promoted progression of the disease (Tu et al, ; T. Wang et al, ). Taken together, LIN28 proteins appear to be crucial for colorectal tumorigenesis through the biogenesis of let‐7 miRNAs and posttranscriptional regulation of oncogenic mRNAs.…”
