Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) affects 40% of the world's females, most of which are disorders linked to desire or interest/excitement. Whilst all types of therapy that attempt to improve female sexual desire have long been established, the results are contradictory. Objective: To analyze all available evidence to validate the effectiveness of natural therapies in the treatment of FSD. Method: The study was registered at http://www.prospero.org (CRD42019127700). We searched the Institute for Scientific Information Web of Knowledge, MEDLINE, Pubmed, Scopus and Cochrane databases for all articles published in peerreviewed journals in April 2019 (in any language). The PICOS standard is women with FSD; (intervention) of any type of Natural therapy; (outcome) primary outcome: frequency of changes, severity, and average mean scores on sexual symptoms measured with a validated instrument, secondary outcome: quality of life; (study design) and randomized clinical trial (RCT). Results: The literature search strategy identified 95 articles, 81 of which were excluded at the different search stages. Finally, we systematically reviewed 15 RCTs, 11 of which referred to primary FSD, and four of which analyzed women with drug-induced FSD (DFSD). Most of them analyzed hypoactive sexual desire disorder. Although differences related to placebo were found in most people, the majority of the studies are considered to be of poor quality and low external effectiveness. Conclusion: Although the quality of the evidence is not high, most natural product interventions appear to improve FSD, particularly hypoactive sexual desire disorders including those categorized as primary and drug-induced.

Introduction: Introduction of the oral phosphodiesterase isoenzyme-5 inhibitors (PDE5-Is) has revolutionized sexual medicine by affording effective treatment for erectile dysfunction. PDE5 hydrolyses cyclic GMP specifically to 5′-GMP. Since its launching, PDE5-Is have stimulated scientific interest for their impending benefits in various implications for the welfare of the human beings. Aim: To highlight the possible potential implications of PDE5-Is in women. Participants and methods: A systematic review was carried out till June 2017 based on a search of concerned articles in Medline, medical subject heading databases, Scopus, The Cochrane Library, Embase, and CINAHL databases without language restriction. Keywords used to assess that outcome and concerned associations were PDE5 inhibitors, sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, avanafil, women, and females. Main outcome measures: Different implications for PDE5-Is in women. Results: Oral PDE5-Is have beneficial medical implications in women. Sexual implications include female sexual dysfunction, female sexual arousal disorder, antidepressant-associated sexual dysfunction, and affected relationship. Gynecological implications include endometrial thickness, abortion, preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, clitoral engorgement, primary dysmenorrhea, uterine blood flow, oligohydramnios, poor ovarian response, ovarian ischemia/reperfusion, and uterine contractility. Urological implications include overactive bladder and interstitial cystitis, whereas dermatological implications include systemic sclerosis and cellulite. In addition, PDE5-Is proved to be beneficial in pulmonary arterial hypertension, coronary dysfunction, esophageal motility, and some metabolic effects. Conclusion: Oral PDE5-Is are an eye-catching therapeutic class of agents with beneficial effects for women, which could be potentially applied after well-designed clinical trials.

Background: Normal sexual function is an important part of women's sexual and mental health. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of inhalation of Elaeagnus angustifolia essential oil on sexual Function of women of reproductive age. Materials and Methods: This study is a randomized, three-group clinical trial that was performed on 99 women referred to health centers in Mashhad. The first group used the essential oil by inhalation for 20 minutes three times a day for 4 weeks and the second group used the essential oil by inhalation 20 minutes before intercourse and the third group did not receive any intervention. Sexual function were assessed by FSFI questionnaire at baseline and after 4 weeks in all three groups. Results:The mean and SD age of women were 33.7±7.6. The mean score of sexual function before the intervention in the first and second intervention group and control group were 23±1.3, 23.3±6.4 and 23.1±3.6 (P=0.630) respectively that was not statistically significant(p=0.630). The mean score of sexual function after 4 weeks in the first and second intervention group and control group were 25.2±7.9, 28.2±4.9 and 23.1±3.5 (P<0.001) respectively. Also after 4 weeks in the second intervention group improved sexual function in all areas, but in the first intervention Group improved all areas except pain and sexual Satisfaction (P<0.001). Trial registration: The research project was registered in the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT) with a code (IRCT20191203045589N1) and the ethics committee of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences with a code (IR.MUMS.NURSE.REC.1398.07) and first registration in 11/12/2019. Conclusion: Inhalation of Elaeagnus angustifolia oil, has had a beneficial effect on improving sexual function in women of reproductive age, so it can be used as an affordable herbal supplement to improve Sexual function in these women.
