Comparison of the bovine herpesvirus 1 gI gene and the herpes simplex virus type 1 gB gene

Abstract: In a previous report, we localized the gene for a 130-kilodalton envelope glycoprotein (gI) of bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) to a 3.6-kilobase HpaI-KpnI restriction endonuclease fragment from the long unique region of the BHV-1 genome (map position 0.405 to 0.432) and showed that a herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) glycoprotein B (gB) probe uniquely hybridized to this BHV-1 restriction fragment. Here we present the complete nucleotide sequence of the BHV-1 gI gene and the predicted 932-amino-acid sequence of the g… Show more

“…Amino acid sequences of the carboxyl termini of authentic and truncated BHV-1 gB, gC, and gD. Predicted transmembrane domains of authentic gB, gC, and gD are boxed(6,41,45). The underlined amino acids of gCt and gDt are exogenous residues added during construction of the mutant molecules.…”

“…Two isomeric forms of the genome, which are created by inversion of the U S relative to the U L , exist (28). BHV-1 expresses at least seven glycoproteins, of which only gB, gC, gD, and gH have been unequivocally assigned to their respective genes (3,15,41,43).…”

“…These are important for virus attachment and entry into the host cell (95, 172,173). The three BHV-1 glycoproteins are homologous to HSV-1 glycoproteins gB (122,154,267), gC (64), and gD (dted in 95 and 270), respectively.…”
