Comparison of SVPWM, SPWM and HCC control techniques in power control of PMSG used in wind turbine systems

Abstract: In this paper, the performance of space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM), sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) and hysteresis current control (HCC) control techniques used in power control with back to back converter of permanent magnet synchronous generator used in wind turbines are comparatively analyzed in terms of dynamic response, total harmonic distortion (THD), torque ripple and current ripple. Furthermore, SVPWM and SPWM are compared in terms of the using DC link voltage. Analysis of system is… Show more

“…The output voltage converters Vao, Vbo, and Vco take only two-level values between Vdc and zero. The different techniques of PWM waveforms for voltage source converters in wind turbines are mainly classified into PWM based on triangle comparison or by utilizing Space Vector (SVPWM), a commonly used modulation technique for power converters [16]. The primary goal of any modulation technique is to obtain a variable output with a high-level component and minimal harmonics.…”

“…Literature [63] introduced the hysteresis controller to improve the LVRT performance of the DFIG system. Nevertheless, the hysteresis current controller suffers some drawbacks like high chattering [64], significant harmonics [65], and extended operating time [66].…”

“…Software‐based LVRT techniques do not need any auxiliary device to ride through low voltage fault of the DFIG system. Therefore, software based LVRT techniques are used as an alternative to hardware‐based LVRT techniques in the literature [55–80] and are explained in the following paragraph of this paper.…”
