Comparison of signalized junction control strategies that use localization probe data

Abstract: This paper presents a simulation test bed and a methodology for evaluating urban signalized junction control algorithms that use localization probe data from all vehicles in the local area. The simulator is based on SIAS Paramics microsimulation software with bespoke software modules built on top for automatic network generation, localization data processing and signal control. Also presented are results from tests carried out using the simulation test bed to evaluate localization strategies. The tested strate… Show more

“…1 the simulation test bed was completed through the development of three additional bespoke modules that are built around Paramics. The 'network generator' module [11] is used to automatically encode the structure of road networks in Paramics using a database containing mapping data. The 'localisation data extraction and processing' module continually interrogates the Paramics simulation to obtain localisation data for all the vehicles in the simulation and stores the processed data in a database.…”

“…The simulation test bed used for the work presented in this paper is described in detail in Box and Waterson (2010a); Waterson and Box (2011). In summarry: it uses S-Paramics microsimulation software to model networks and simulate the movement of individual vehicles through junctions.…”
