Comparison of short-term effects of rigid tape and night splint on pain and function in patient with carpal tunnel syndrome: a randomized clinical trial

Abstract: Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı konservatif tedavide klasik fizyoterapi ve rehabilitasyon yöntem-lerine ek olarak kullanılan gece splinti veya sert bant uygulamalarının karpal tünel sendromu olan hastaların semptomları üzerine kısa dönem etkilerini karşılaştırmaktı. Show more

“…4 Although there is no consensus regarding types of splints or optimal wrist position, recent findings have shown that NS as the wrist positioned in neutral with metacarpophalangeal support could result in symptomatic and functional improvements in CTS. 3,16,19,29,30 In the current study, NS was used to position the wrist in neutral and thereby prevent undesired pressure in the carpal tunnel. However, the findings of our study pointed out that positioning the wrist in a neutral position by using NS did not provide additional benefits than physical therapy intervention alone unlike previous recommendations.…”

“…4 The rehabilitation program was delivered at the clinic under the supervision of the therapist (LE) consisted of a heat therapy, ultrasound therapy, self-myofascial stretching of the carpal ligament, and tendon and nerve gliding exercises. 4,6,[19][20][21][22] Heat therapy was administered by using hot-pack enclosed in a towel for 15 mins around the palmar side of the wrist. It provided superficial heat to hands, which could relieve pain and improve the local circulation.…”
