Comparison of Selected Classification Methods Based on Machine Learning as a Diagnostic Tool for Knee Joint Cartilage Damage Based on Generated Vibroacoustic Processes

Robert KARPIŃSKI,
Przemysław KRAKOWSKI,
Józef JONAK
et al.

Abstract: Osteoarthritis is one of the most common cause of disability among elderly. It can affect every joint in human body, however, it is most prevalent in hip, knee, and hand joints. Early diagnosis of cartilage lesions is essential for fast and accurate treatment, which can prolong joint function. Available diagnostic methods include conventional X-ray, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. However, those diagnostic modalities are not suitable for screening purposes. Vibroarthrography is proposed in literatur… Show more

“…Typical radiological characteristics include narrowing of the joint space, sclerosis and cyst formation in the subchondral bone layer and osteophytes on conventional radiography [ 13 , 14 ]. Other imaging modalities, such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography or alternative methods, such as vibroarthrography [ 15 , 16 , 17 ] of the joint, can be utilized in the diagnostic route. However, conventional radiography still remains the gold standard.…”

“…In the automotive industry, technological advancements have revolutionized the way cars are viewed and used, offering a more enjoyable and safer driving experience. Sensors are a modern approach to monitoring vehicle conditions, improving performance and increased safety (Bloecher et al, 2009;Karpinski et al, 2023). They support driver-assistance systems, enabling braking and parking assistance while constantly detecting obstacles, thus avoiding possible accidents and providing a personalized experience.…”

“…The non-invasive diagnosis of knee osteoarthritis typically relies on physical examination and common imaging techniques such as radiography (X-ray), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound [ 3 ]. Other recent studies have pointed to vibroarthrography as a cheaper, non-invasive, safe method and an important tool in detecting degenerative changes that occur in the knee joints [ 4 ].…”
