Comparison of Quality, Antioxidant Capacity, and Anti-Inflammatory Activity of Adlay [Coix lacryma-jobi L. var. ma-yuen (Rom. Caill.) Stapf.] Sprout at Several Harvest Time

Eun-Song Lee,
Yong-Il Kim,
Jeong-Hoon Lee
et al.

Abstract: Recently, there has been a growing interest in the consumption of plant-based foods such as vegetables and grains for the purpose of disease prevention and treatment. Adlay seeds contain physiologically active substances, including coixol, coixenolide, and lactams. In this study, adlay sprouts were cultivated and harvested at various time points, specifically at 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 days after sowing. The antioxidant activity of the extracts was evaluated using assays such as DPPH radical scavenging, ABTS radica… Show more

“…Coicis semen contains high levels of antioxidants, including phenolic compounds, flavonoids, gamma-aminobutyric acid, CSP, and polyphenols ( Xu et al, 2017 ; Zeng et al, 2021 ; Fang et al, 2023 ; Lee et al, 2023 ; Zhao et al, 2023 ). These antioxidants help prevent cellular oxidative stress and mitochondrial oxidative damage ( Table 4 ; Figure 5 ), protecting mitochondrial integrity ( Brand et al, 2004 ) and function ( Chen et al, 2022 ).…”

“…and Mashinin (Cannabis Fructus). Some studies have analyzed lowmolecular compounds or polysaccharides that can be extracted into a low-polarity solvent in Yokuinin and investigated their effects in vitro and in vivo [63][64][65][66][67][68][69]. However, Li et al extracted the components in Yokuinin using high-polarity solvents, namely, 0.5 M sodium chloride aqueous, 70% ethanol aqueous, and 12.5 mM sodium borate buffer [18]; these four solvents contained albumin, globulin, prolamin, and glutelin, and their target was glutelin.…”
