Comparison of Properties of Colorless and Transparent Polyimide Nanocomposites Containing Chemically Modified Nanofillers: Functionalized-Graphene and Organoclay

Abstract: Poly(amic acid) (PAA) was synthesized from dianhydride 4,4-(4,4-isopropylidenediphenoxy)bis(phthalic anhydride) and diamine bis [4-(3-aminophenoxy) phenyl] sulfone. Colorless and transparent polyimide (CPI) hybrid films were synthesized through thermal imidization after dispersing nanofillers using an intercalation method in a PAA solution. C16-GS and C16-MMT, in which hexadecylamine (C16) was substituted on graphene sheet (GS) and montmorillonite (MMT), respectively, were used as nanofillers to reinforce the … Show more

“…The prepared polymers exhibited good transparency in the visible range, namely at 550 nm, the transmittance was 82.71% for PI-1, 68.58% for PI-2, 70.71% for PI-3, and 80.26% for PI-4. The results are similar to the transparency reported for other PIs containing BAPS moieties [ 31 , 32 ]. Among the analyzed PI films, it can be noted that a higher amount of incident radiation comes out of the other side of PI-1 and PI-4 samples, particularly under 600 nm.…”

“…That is, when the STN content was increased from 3 to 7 wt%, T g decreased from 233 to 213 °C, possibly because when the clay added to the hybrid lm exceeds a certain critical concentration, it is not dispersed; instead, it aggregates, reducing T g . 46,47 The aggregation of clay when the critical concentration is exceeded is supported by the XRD and TEM results (Fig. 3 and 5).…”

“…[14][15][16] Polymer memory materials can store data through the conversion between the low and high current states between two electrodes by the applied voltage, which can be assigned as "0" and "1" or "OFF" state and "ON" state. [17][18][19][20][21] In recent years, functional polyimides (PIs) are regarded as the most promising polymeric memory materials due to their excellent thermal resistance [22] , chemical stability [23] , mechanical durability [24] and flexibility [25] . More importantly, PIs with the special donor-acceptor (D-A) type molecular structures exhibiting stronger intramolecular and intermolecular charge transfer (CT) effects are more promising for the flexible memory devices.…”
