This study was carried out semi-experimentally to evaluate the effect of concept map based-teaching on nursing students' problem solving skills. The students who took the course in fall term were determined as control and those who took it in spring term were determined as experimental group . Both groups were simultaneously administered Student Information Form and Problem Solving Scale (PSS) at the beginning of the fall term, and PSS at the end of the fall and spring terms.It was also found that PSS increased significantly at the beginning of the course period in the experimental group, and that although there was not a statistically significant difference between the groups at the end of the term regarding PSS mean scores, There was a positive and significant relationship between the increase in academic achievement and problem solving skills of the experimental group students. It is recommended that concept map based education should be used as a method providing effective learning in nursing education to enhance problem solving skills and academic success positively.

In this research, it is aimed to analyze the problem solving skills of university students in terms of different variables and to analyze the differences among the levels of perceived problem solving skill of the students of Physical Education and Sports College and other branch students. The sample consists of the university students from the School of Physical Education and Sports (128) and from the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management (104) from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department (162), summing up 394 students (n female =193, n male =201) in total, based on the simple random sampling method. "Personal Information Form" and "Problem Solving Inventory (PSI)" were used as data collection tools. The T-test and One-Way ANOVA were used for normal distribution and LSD Test was used for determining the differences across groups. When the data were analyzed in terms of the variables of the study, it was found that a significant difference between the gender variable and problem solving skill in favour of males although there was no statistically significant difference between the problem solving skills and the place of birth of the students and the number of family members. It was found a significant difference between the students from School of Physical Education Sports and Department, students from Tourism and Hotel Management Department and students from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department in favour of the students from The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department. Based on the findings of the research; Problem-solving skills of the students of the Physical Education and Sports College were found to be lower than the other departments.

The comparison of critical thinking and problem solving disposition of athletes according to gender and sport type

The terms "critical thinking and problem solving" are crucial for cognitive processes of athletes. It could also be said that these two concepts are likely to affect athletic performance of individuals. Therefore, the aim of this research was to investigate critical thinking and problem solving disposition of athletes. For this purpose 432 athletes (X age : 20.53±3.85; X sportexperience : 9.47±4.22) who comprise of 261 males (60.4%) and 171 females (39.6%) participated to the research. Problem Solving Inventory and California Scale of Disposition to Think Critically. The data was analysed by SPSS 17.0 by using descriptive statistics and t-test Level of significance was determined to be 0.05. Results showed that mean score for critical thinking was 3,82±,41 and the mean was 3,83±,46 for problem solving skill of the athletes. It was also found that there was not a significant difference between males and females according to critical thinking (p>0,05). However, males' and females' scores for problem solving significantly differed (p<0,05). Any significant difference was not obtained according to sport type. Overall, it could be said that gender can act as a determiner role among athletes in terms of problem solving disposition.
