Comparison of Proactive Braking Intervention System Acceptability via Field Operation Tests in Different Regions

Abstract: To evaluate the generalities of acceptability of a proactive braking intervention system, which anticipates an imaginary pedestrian rushing out from occluded areas, and driving environmental dependencies, we conducted field operation tests (FOTs), where 146 elderly drivers participated at three evaluation sites with different urban characteristics. Analyses regarding the coexisting traffic participants illustrate driving environmental characteristics at each evaluation site. Evaluations via TMT-J, DSQ, and WSQ… Show more

“…The case study of car-pedestrian accident based on a large number of accident records from European institutions data bases has led to a 14-criteria structure identification that can generate a comparative virtual simulation model between real occurred situations for which the ADAS systems were absent and the hypothetical situations for which the vehicles would be equipped with these safety systems. Thus, virtual testing becomes a strong instrument for ADAS logic optimization, for environmental risk factors study [18], and for drivers' education with the aim of increasing the awareness and acceptance degree concerning ADAS [19][20][21][22]. Referring to ADAS sensors structure the opinions of important automotive groups are diverse, Tesla considers that ADAS development has to be oriented on video camera, purely vision for ADAS, because it performs better than other types of sensors in pedestrian automatic emergency braking, for example [23].…”
