Comparison of pre-dilation with a non-compliant balloon versus a dual wire scoring balloon for coronary stenting

Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the influence of lesion preparation using the dual wire scoring balloon on stent expansion and long-term outcomes. Methods: Forty-six consecutive de novo lesions treated with a single >2.5 mm drug-eluting stent under intravascular ultrasound guidance, using two implantation strategies, were randomly assigned to: 1) pre-dilation with a non-compliant balloon (NC group; n = 23) or 2) pre-dilation with a dual wire sco… Show more

“…Scoring balloons have similar indications to cutting balloons, but scoring balloons are more flexible, have a better profile and can achieve a full expansion with a low inflation pressure, with consequently less trauma to vessel walls and a minor risk of coronary dissections. [39,40]…”

“…While the indication of balloon scoring and balloon cutting are identical, balloon scoring has a higher consistency pro le than balloon cutting due to its dynamism, fewer vessel exterior trauma, and a benign likelihood of coronary dissections. 20,21 The technique involved in atherectomy procedure is a built on the foundation of manipulating plaque microstructure and adherence, triggering calcium deposit disintegration. Rotational atherectomy is an intricate technique that utilizes a burr with diamond tip.…”

“…A similar relationship was observed for the QCA-derived RVD. However, OCT showed better correlation than QCA on 16 In the current study, the balloon type and size selected by the operator were potentially influenced by the assessment of angiographic calcification. The CB and NC balloons were likely used for lesions with hard plaque, which could confound the results of our analysis.…”
