Comparison of postoperative quality of recovery and pain relief with preoperative single-dose dexamethasone and lignocaine after laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Abstract: Aim:To compare the role of single intravenous (IV) bolus of lignocaine and dexamethasone on pain score and quality of recovery score (QoR40) after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.Setting and Design:The study was conducted at the postoperative recovery area, This was a double-blind randomized controlled study.Materials and Methods:Seventy patients 18–60 years of age, American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status Class I and II, who underwent elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy, were enrolled in this stud… Show more

“…At 24 h, subjects receiving 0.1 mg/kg dexamethasone had consumed less opioid analgesics, and reported less sore throat, muscle pain, confusion, difficulty in falling asleep, and nausea compared with 0.05 mg/kg dexamethasone or saline. 38 Similar findings have been reported by others, 40,41 and in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. 42…”

“…Visceral pain caused by pneumoperitoneum is the main source of pain following laparoscopic surgeries as shown by results obtained by earlier studies (25,26) . Improving postoperative analgesia after laparoscopic surgeries by intraperitoneal instillation of a local anesthetic has been widely investigated in previous studies (27)(28)(29)(30) .…”

“…The effects of a perioperative lignocaine infusion and a single dosage of lignocaine on postoperative pain have been studied. [9][10][11] In this trial, a bolus dose of lignocaine was chosen for the group P, along with paracetamol and diclofenac.…”
