Comparison of photocatalytic reaction-induced selective corrosion with photocorrosion: Impact on morphology and stability of Ag-ZnO

Abstract: In previous work, the photocatalytic stability during the recycled degradation is employed to evaluate the inhibitory effect of photocorrosion. Then, a significant question arises: is the photocatalytic stability only related to the photocorrosion for ZnO? The answer turns out to be no in our work. The phenomenon of photocatalytic reaction-induced selective corrosion of ZnO nanosheets was firstly revealed. It is found that the special corrosion not only needs UV light irradiation, but also results from the pho… Show more

“…However, the absorption peaks of RhB located at ~554 nm doesn’t change too much (Fig. 9) 39 . As for two cationic dyes MB and RhB, we speculate that the discrepancy in adsorption capacities among them can be ascribed to the molecule size 29,35 .…”

“…Figure 11A indicates that the recyclability for AgSiO/Ag 2 CO 3 -5:1 composite. After six successive cycles, AgSiO/Ag 2 CO 3 -5:1 composite still possesses ~89% degradation rate of MB after ~40 min VL irradiation, indicating its high recyclability 30,39,43 . The results indicate that the incorporation of AgSiO with Ag 2 CO 3 photocatalyst successfully improves the VL photocatalytic performance and restrains the photocorrosion in a large level 13,44 .…”

“…Various photocatalysts such as TiO 2 , V 2 O 5 , NaNbO 3 , gC 3 N 4 , BWO – GO were employed to degrade TC. The semiconductor photocatalysts such as TiO 2 and ZnO have broad bandgap and hence absorb only ultraviolet light. This accounts for only 3–4% of the sunlight.…”

“…At present, various types of semiconductor photocatalysts have been reported such as TiO 2 35 and ZnO 68 with broad bandgap which absorbs only ultraviolet light which accounts for only about 3~4% of sunlight. Others like CdS 911 and CdSe 1214 , with narrow band gap which absorbs visible light, whereas contain cadmium element which is a widespread environmental pollutant with high toxicity.…”
