Comparison of Perceived Weight as Ideal Against Ideal Body Weight Formulas and Body Mass Index of 22 Kg/M2 in Young Adult Women.

Abstract: SUMMARYIntroduction: Formulas of ideal body weight (IBW) including the body mass index (BMI) of 22 kg/m2 are used under the assumption to provide a healthy weight. Objective: We compare the perceived ideal body weight (PIBW) with the calculated IBW by formulas and the BMI of 22. Methods: We recruited 705 women (20-25 y). Six common formulas and 2 published equations by our team were used. Results: Group regression analysis determined that including the frame size improves the agreement of formulas of Robinson … Show more

“…The average BMI of 24.9 among the evaluated workers (Table 6), considered ideal by the World Health Organization (LÓPEZ et al, 2018), can be explained by the intense energy expenditure associated with the demanding physical activities of the profession. The muscular and cardiovascular effort involved in forestry work contributes to calorie burning and muscle development, positively influencing BMI.…”

“…Ramirez López Erik and his coworkers compare the perceived ideal body weight (PIBW) with the calculated IBW by formulas and the BMI of 22. They have obtained that the IBW formulas and BMI of 22 does not necessarily represent a desirable or aesthetic weight (Erik et al, 2018).…”

“…For females, the standard weight is 10% less than that of male. For example, a female of 163 cm tall will have a standard weight of 63 × 0.9 = 56.7 kg (Erik et al, 2018). Obesity occurs when the weight is 20% in excess of BI value that gives a normal Broca weight within the BMI range of 20 to 25 (James et al, 1998).…”
