The last two decades have witnessed the discovery of a myriad of new and unexpected hadrons. The future holds more surprises for us, thanks to new-generation experiments. Understanding the signals and determining the properties of the states requires a parallel theoretical effort. To make full use of available and forthcoming data, a careful amplitude modeling is required, together with a sound treatment of the statistical uncertainties, and a systematic survey of the model dependencies. We review the contributions made by the Joint Physics Analysis Center to the field of hadron spectroscopy.

Determination of the structure of the X(3872) in p¯A col

Currently, the structure of the X(3872) meson is unknown. Different competing models of the cc exotic state X(3872) exist, including the possibilities that this state is either a mesonic molecule with dominating D 0D * 0 + c.c. composition, a ccqq tetraquark, or a cc-gluon hybrid state. It is expected that the X(3872) state is rather strongly coupled to thepp channel and, therefore, can be produced inpp andpA collisions at PANDA. We propose to test the hypothetical molecular structure of X(3872) by studying the D orD * stripping reactions on a nuclear residue.

Using the results of recent TTN charge-exchange polarization measurements at Argonne National Laboratory we have determined the amplitudes for irN scattering 3.6 and 6.0 GeV/c. Two different methods, individual t-by-t analysis and t-dependent analysis, have been adopted, and uncertainties of these amplitudes are discussed.After the parameters R and A for TIN scattering were measured at 6 GeV/c, a number of authors 1 " 3 attempted to extract the rrN scattering amplitudes using various methods. We have determined the amplitudes to within an overall tdependent phase. We have performed the analyses using new charge-exchange polarization data, 4 and have employed two new methods; the uncertainties of the amplitudes are realistically determined by the second method. We only show 6,0-GeV/c results of the analyses I but present both 3.6-and 6.0-GeV/c results of the analyses II.Amplitude analysis I (individual t analysis).-In this individual t-by-t analysis two features were incorporated to improve upon the early Halzen-Michael work. 1 First we determined the seven amplitudes algebraically from seven measurements [
