Comparison of Modeling Predictions with Experimental Data from Plastic Lithium Ion Cells

Abstract: Modeling results for a lithium‐ion battery based on the couple LixC6|LiyMn2O4 are presented and compared to experimental data. Good agreement between simulation and experiment exists for several different experimental cell configurations on both charge and discharge. Simulations indicate that the battery in its present design is ohmically limited. Additional internal resistance in the cells, beyond that initially predicted by the model, could be described using either a contact resistance between cell layers… Show more

“…Doyle et al [22] introduced a fourth-order polynomial function for f dc that accurately fits the experimental conductivity data collected for various liquid/salt/polymer systems. Parameters for a system consisting of a 2:1 volume mixture of ethylene carbonate and dimethyl carbonate at 25 • C can be found in the literature [21,4].…”

“…We followed the work by the Newman group, where the Butler−Volmer model was used as the governing equation. 41,42 At the top of the potential barrier, the polysulfide phase is not yet formed. Consequently, the electrochemical reaction is still within the single-phase regime…”
