Comparison of Line Beam Response Function for Gamma-ray Skyshine Analysis Based on Single Scattering Method with the Monte Carlo Calculations.

Abstract: A simple calculation method for estimating gamma-ray skyshine dose rates has been developed on the basis of the line beam response function (LBRF). The new data of LBRFs were generated by the single scattering with point kernel technique (single-scattering method). These resulting LBRFs were compared with the EGS4 and MCNP Monte Carlo calculations. The values of the new LBRFs for the large emitted angle become smaller than the LBRFs obtained with the Monte Carlo calculations with an increase of the distance fr… Show more

“…According to the results, the improved geometrical progression formula gave an enhanced fit for all values of buildup factors up to 100 mfps, within about 15%. Furthermore, the validity of the geometrical progression parameters was tested and the possibility to obtain a buildup factor for a mixture was demonstrated [13].…”

“…Harima, et al [13] improved the geometrical progression fitting function for 28 single-material gamma-ray buildup factors to approximate the deep penetration up to 100 mfps. The results were tested by the least squares fit and the minimization of maximum fractional deviation.…”
