Comparison of ICD shock rates in Japanese and non‐Japanese patients in the PainFree SST study

Abstract: There was no difference in the appropriate shock rate between Japan and other geographies. The inappropriate shock rate in Japan was low, although it was slightly higher compared to other geographies due to baseline characteristics, including a higher prevalence of permanent AF. There was not a statistically significant difference after adjusting for baseline characteristics.

“…In the 85 patients, 45 patients experienced multiple episodes and the other 40 patients had a single episode of ATP therapy for fast VT. Average number of the fast VT episodes in each patient was 2.4 ± 2.9 1‐22 times. ATP successfully terminated 151 of the 202 fast VT episodes (74.8%) in total.…”

“…ATP used to be programmed for VT with relatively slow heart rate (HR), while immediate cardioversion had been chosen for VT with fast HR. However, as compared to cardioversion, ATP has various advantages (including better quality of life, less frequent psychological problems, longer battery longevity, and avoiding shock‐induced cardiac dysfunction), and these have been consistently confirmed in various patients’ backgrounds in many studies 3‐5 …”
