Comparison of heterogeneous communication systems for M2M environment

Abstract: This paper presents BER, FER performance comparison, especially on PHY mode of IEEE 802.15.4g and IEEE 802.11 under AWGN channel through a simulation, which is communication method using identical frequency bandwidth in M2M environment. This considers suitable communication method of required parameter. It is advantageous that FSK method is used in situations where the system requires low complexity and inexpensive structure. When the high throughput and various traffic characteristics of the system are requir… Show more

“…As / 0 increases, the performance in terms of the BPSK and QPSK for IEEE 802.11 approaches that of OFDM for IEEE 802.15.4g. Figures 6,7,8,and 9 show the BER performances for each PHY mode in the fading channels. In general, the difference in the performance of the PHY modes decreases, and, more specifically, IEEE 802.11 exhibits better performance than IEEE 802.15.4g because IEEE 802.11 has been designed to reduce the fading effects due to its mobility, for example, in the design of the interleaver for the FEC.…”

“…Dfmax represents the maximum Doppler frequency, SP loss is the second-path loss, and SP delay is the second-path delay. For the AWGN and shadowing channels, specific forward error correction (FEC) is neglected to describe the uncoded performances gap among the PHY modes [9]. For the fading channel, the FEC in the specification of the existing IEEE 802 series is considered to show the coded performances.…”
