Comparison of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) with Tc-99m-DTPA and tubular extraction rate (TER) with Tc-99m-MAG3 in potential living kidney donors: Feasibility of a one-day protocol

Abstract: Aim Sufficient glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is mandatory in living kidney donors (LKD) before renal transplantation (RT). Guidelines recommend exogenous GFR (e. g. Tc-99m-DTPA) besides estimated GFR by plasma creatinine (eGFR). Tc-99m-MAG3 determines split function and tubular extraction rate (TER). This study evaluated a time-efficient one-day protocol for DTPA and MAG3 in potential LKD. Methods Retrospective analysis of 82 consecutive potential LKD (female, 52; age, 54 [19–73] a). DTPA GFR (Fle… Show more

“…In total, 19 out of 96 renal disease patients were diagnosed with the renal obstruction which reinforces precise functional characterization analysis revealed by renal scintigraphy. Abnormal renal US observed in the current study finding renal obstruction may be due to factors like interference by intestinal gas, ischemia, the expertise of the radiologist, and non-cooperation of the patients [25] [26]. Moreover, one patient was reported non-obstructive renal disease in ultrasonography but was confirmed with renal obstruction in renal scintigraphy.…”

“…One day protocol for [ 99m Tc]TcDTPA 2has been already described on kidney donors, but with blood sampling and [ 99m Tc]TcMAG3 2complementary images but, as this tracer is not available in Brazil, an alternative protocol is needed [51].…”
