Comparison of FIB‐4 index, NAFLD fibrosis score and BARD score for prediction of advanced fibrosis in adult patients with non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease: A meta‐analysis study

Abstract: FIB-4 index with a 1.30 cut-off has better diagnostic accuracy than the FIB-4 index with a 3.25 cut-off, NFS and BARD score, despite showing its limited value for predicting NAFLD-related advanced fibrosis.

“…In addition to simple bedside tests, these assessments include nonproprietary indices such as the AAR, APRI, FIB‐4, NFS and BARD and patented methods such as the FibroTest ® and Enhanced Liver Fibrosis (ELF) test ® . Although these tests have been widely used for Caucasian patients with NAFLD, their diagnostic performances in staging fibrosis are debatable, particularly in Asian patients with NAFLD . Therefore, we compared the diagnostic performances of the noninvasive fibrosis tests in Asian patients with biopsy‐proven NAFLD.…”

“…A recent meta-analysis evaluating the use of FIB-4 index described a pooled sensitivity of 84% and specificity of 69% for diagnosing NAFLD-related advanced fibrosis [43] . However, there have been no previous reports on the usefulness of clinical parameters including FIB-4 index for the diagnosis of NASH with mild fibrosis.…”

“…Simple and reliable noninvasive tools have been documented in recent years for screening NAFLD [46, 47]. It has been demonstrated that the FIB-4 score based on several laboratory tests can reliably predict advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis in NAFLD [48].…”
