Comparison of FEM calculated heat transfer coefficient in a minichannel using two approaches: Trefftz base functions and ADINA software

Abstract: Abstract. The paper presents the methods of heat transfer coefficient determination for boiling research during FC-72 flow in a minichannel. The boundary condition in the form of distributions of temperature on the outer side of the minichannel heated wall was obtained using infrared thermography. It was assumed two-dimensional steady-state heat flow. The local values of the heat transfer coefficients on the surface between the heated foil and boiling liquid, were determined from the Robin boundary condition. … Show more

“…The 2D approach using Trefftz functions for solving the inverse problem and the commercial software ADINA were also applied in the computations. The results were discussed in the authors' previous works [19,21,26,27,29]. It allowed to verify the correctness of the 1D approach.…”

“…For the analysis of the experimental data, analytical -numerical methods such as: Trefftz and Piccard methods [16], Trefftz and Beck methods [16,17], in which the calculations were based on the use of Trefftz functions. Furthermore, the commercial ADINA program was applied in numerical calculations to perform advanced mathematical procedures using experimental data [18,19]. Similarly, the results of the CFD and heat transfer calculations for the test section with a group of minichannels performed in Simcenter STAR-CCM + software were presented in [20].…”

“…Main of authors earlier works concerned steady state studies on flow boiling heat transfer in minigaps of different geometry: in an annular minigap [1,2] and in minichannels of rectangular cross sections [2][3][4][5][6]. It was also noticed that the use of enhanced surfaces often increases the intensification of heat transfer both in flow boiling [2][3][4][5][6] and in pool boiling research [7][8][9]. Maciejewska and Piasecka focused on flow boiling heat transfer under unsteady state conditions in minichannels [10,11].…”
