“…In developing solvent extraction processes, it is necessary to determine the conditions under which the solvents will have a high capacity and at the same time will retain a high selectivity with respect to aromatic hydrocarbons. So Zhurba et al 82 presented the results from an investigation of the efficiencies of sulfolane, N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), DEG, TEG, propy-lene carbonate, and a mixture of methyl and ethyl carbamates (1 : 1) for the extraction of aromatic hydrocarbons from a kerosene distillate (180-240 uC) containing 24.6% aromatic hydrocarbons. The extraction was performed in a single stage with a solvent : feedstock ratio of 3 : 1 at 25 uC for all of the solvents except the sulfolane, which was used at 100 uC since it was too thick at lower temperatures.…”

“…It was established that the best extraction properties are shown by an aqueous solution of NMP, by propylene carbonate, and by mixed methyl and ethyl carbamates whereas furfural, morpholine, and DEG have relatively poor extraction properties in dearomatizing the kerosene cut. However, the use of such comparatively highly selective and high-boiling extractives such as sulfolane, DEG, TEG and propylene carbonate proposed for dearomatization of kerosene 82,83 and diesel 84 fractions is complicated by the impossibility of regenerating them by fractionation, which is due to the formation of azeotropic mixtures with components of the feedstock.…”
