Comparison of early onset breast cancer patients to older premenopausal breast cancer patients

Abstract: In conclusion, young breast cancer patients still have a poor prognosis. Even after adjustment of the data, OAS and RFS showed a worse prognosis. Normal prognostic factors like tumor size, axillary lymph node involvement, and grading can therefore be not the explanation for the more aggressive disease progress within early onset breast cancer patients.

“…It is well known that breast cancers in young patients tend to behave more aggressively and possess poorer prognosis compared with cases in old patients [47,48]. Furthermore, in our study, lower TAP1 or TAP2 in primary breast cancers were both associated with poorer AJCC stage.…”

“…Brazilian women have limited access to clinics that provide mammography examinations and organized population-based screening programs do not exist; consequently, the majority of the BC cases in Brazil are detected at advanced stages. This is in contrast to the situation in developed countries, where regular mammography screening enables the detection of the majority of cases of BC at an early stage (14,19,21). Indeed, prior to 2002, there was no formal recommendation from the Brazilian Health Authorities to provide mammography examinations in asymptomatic women.…”

“…Typically, the young BC age group ranges from 35 (13,18,19) to 40 (2,14,20,21), however, there is no clear consensus supporting these strict age limits for young and old. However, BC is more frequent in women aged >50 years old.…”

“…Les données concernant le lien entre âge, taille tumorale, atteinte ganglionnaire et statut HER2 sont plus controversées [4,7,41,59,83,94,171], avec des discordances qui, pour le dernier paramètre, peuvent être rapportées aux techniques de mesure qui ne sont pas homogènes pour les études les plus anciennes. Il a également été retrouvé une plus grande incidence des formes infl ammatoires chez les femmes plus jeunes [31].…”
