Comparison of curative effects between mammotome‐assisted minimally invasive resection (MAMIR) and traditional open surgery for gynecomastia in Chinese patients: A prospective clinical study

Abstract: To analyze and compare prospectively the curative effects between mammotome‐assisted minimally invasive resection (MAMIR) and traditional open surgery (TOS) for gynecomastia in Chinese male patients, a total of 60 patients suffering from grade I and II gynecomastia, evaluated by automated whole‐breast ultrasound (AWBU), were recruited and randomly divided into TOS and MAMIR groups (each n = 30). The postoperative scar size, healing time, patient hospital stay, postoperative satisfaction, postoperative pain, an… Show more

“…The total rate of postoperative complications in the mammotome minimally invasive surgery group was significantly better than that of the conventional open surgery group. Our results suggest that minimally invasive mastectomy is better in treating breast tumors than traditional open surgery, which reinforced the advantage of the surgery treatment [ 18 – 20 ].…”

“…In an article, the pain levels after operations for gynecomastia were reported as 4.13±0.78 and 6.70±1.06 scores. Therefore, pain from cryolipolysis is more tolerable than that from other invasive treatments such as liposuction 27 . Nonetheless, cryolipolysis is not associated with serious adverse events such as fat embolism, hematoma, necrosis, scarring, or abnormalities in the lipid profile.…”

“…The minimally invasive rotary cutting technique usually results in smaller scars than the conventional resection procedure (Yang & Mu, 2020). Thus, the surgical wound heals faster and the patients are more satisfied with the surgery; however, this technique is associated with a higher incidence of mild pain, edema, and bruises, and possibly a higher risk of recurrence (Wang et al, 2019; Yang & Mu, 2020). In the present study, some patients with stable or progressive GYN chose surgery.…”

“…The observation group had a higher percentage of patients with progressive disease and a higher surgery rate. Currently, the surgical treatments for GYN include subcutaneous mastectomy with preservation of the nipple‐areolar complex (conventional resection or mastoscopy‐assisted procedure) and the minimally invasive rotary cutting technique (Wang et al, 2019; Yang & Mu, 2020).…”
