Comparison of components of odontogenic cyst fl uids: A review

Abstract: The cystic lesions that affect the oral and maxillofacial region are predominantly odontogenic in origin. The odontogenic cell rests entangled within tissue of the jaws such as cell rests of Malassez, cell rests of serre, and enamel organ leads to its formation. The factors leading to the enlargement of these jaw cysts are increased the permeability of cyst wall, increased the protein content of the cyst fluid, and when the intracystic fluid pressure on the jaw bone is increased. This review is an attempt to a… Show more

“…These and β) in radicular cyst is higher than other odontogenic cysts. 14 In most studies it is seen that the healing process of this lesion is dependent on the lesion size. 15 16 In most of the studies it is stated that treatment protocol depends on the size and extent of the lesion.…”

“…Among the odontogenic cyst, we had cases of radicular cyst, OKC, and dentigerous cyst. Radicular cyst is an odontogenic cyst of inflammatory origin [11]. The cystic fluid is brown in color, odorless, and nonsticky.…”

“…Aspiration and analysis of cystic content to identify amount of total protein (which is usually less than 4g/100 mL), albumin, pre-albumin, and detection of epithelial squames may be used as a reliable preoperative diagnosis of OKC [44][45][46]. However, for non-expansile lesions where aspiration is relatively di cult to perform, incisional biopsy through an open technique will provide adequate tissue sample to obtain a de nitive histologic diagnosis prior to undertaking treatment.…”
