Comparison of closure occlusal force parameters in post-orthodontic and non-orthodontic subjects using T-Scan® III DMD occlusal analysis

Abstract: A significant occlusal force discrepancy was found in the post-orthodontic subjects, with higher force percentages observed posteriorly and much less percentage force anteriorly, when compared to the natural dentition subjects. T-Scan® III digital occlusal analysis may be recommended for orthodontic case finishing, to make visible to the clinician the severity of the orthodontically created occlusal force imbalance, such that it can be minimized during orthodontic case finishing.

“…[18][19][20] First introduced in 1987, T-Scan (Tekscan, Inc., South Boston, MA, USA) is a computer-assisted dental occlusion analyzer, i.e., able to record quantifiable relative occlusal force and contact time sequencing in real time. 18,21,22 A vast body of evidence supports the acceptable accuracy of computerized occlusal analysis as an occlusal indicator. 18,[21][22][23][24] The aim of this study was to evaluate postinsertion posterior single-implant restoration occlusion changes at different intervals using the T-Scan III computerized occlusal analysis system.…”

“…The Disclusion Time] in protrusive movement removes the potential cause of the reoccurring spacing. Space opening mechanism (2) implies, in our opinion that the buccal inclination of one of the anterior teeth is caused by the excessive pressure during the prolonged protrusive and lateral movements. The longer the excursive movement, the more likely the buccal inclination to occur.…”

“…Occlusal contact distribution in post orthodontic patients was examined in various studies [1,2,3]. Authors put emphasis on the distribution of occlusal contacts in multi-bite recordings with the use of T-scan III occlusal analysis system [2], on the length of the Disclusion Time [DT] in orthodontically treated and nonorthodontically treated patients [1], the presence of non-working side contacts in later obtrusion and protrusion movements [3].…”

“…Each intervention will be perceived by the neuromuscular mechanism, and the movement will not be a physiological function. Computerized occlusal analysis systems give us control of extreme physiologic occlusion [35,[82][83][84][85][86]. Actually, occlusal papers and similar indicators (wax, powder, shimstock, foil, etc.…”
