“…A referral bias may cause a high frequency of anti-Scl-70 antibodies. However, it was similar to that described in the Northern (79%) 29 and the North-Eastern (81%) 28 Thai series. Anyway, all of these centers were the SSc referral centers.…”

“…However, the SSc patients included in the immediately aforementioned studies had a longer disease duration (>6 years) and they lived in a subtropical area. Foocharoen et al 28 and Wangkaew et al 29 (overlapped population with Wangkaew et al 7 ) from another two Thailand SSc referral centers reported prevalence rates of DU of 19% and 8.7%. These series had a longer disease duration (>8 years).…”

“…At enrolment, in the SSc-CM group, there was a higher prevalence of the male gender, DcSSc subtype, and anti-topoisomerase I antibody-positive. Men were found to have higher incidence of right ventricular dysfunction, ILD and more severe disease manifestations compared to women, in our prior published inception cohort data 37 . There was also more suggestive evidence of severe clinical presentation in the SSc-CM including small joint contracture, dysphagia; higher values of mRSS, CK level, and Pro-BNP level; lower values of oxygen saturation than the non-CM subgroup; and more severe left ventricular abnormalities than those with non-CM.…”

“…Finally, a smaller Asian cohort study in Thailand ( n = 115; 46 males) by Wangkaew et al 8 compared male and female adult SSc patients with early disease onset, with similar age of onset and disease duration between sexes, eliminating some of these potential biases. At the last visit, male patients had a higher prevalence of active digital ulceration, interstitial lung disease, joint contracture, and tendon friction rub; these were also observed in our cohort at enrollment, some significantly, while others trending.…”

“…4,5 Although adult males are less frequently affected, they have a difference in SSc organ manifestations and demonstrate a more severe disease course in cohort studies. [4][5][6][7][8][9] To address if these or other differences are present in jSSc patients we reviewed our patients' data enrolled in the juvenile systemic sclerosis inception cohort (jSScC) at their baseline visit and after 12 months regarding organ involvement and disease severity, including physician and patientreported outcomes, between male and female sex.…”
