“…Typically, one of the three methods can be employed to calculate a stepping motor's behavior: analytical method, combined analytical-numerical method and numerical methods (mainly the FEM) [1] . The first one can achieve a solution rapidly with an accuracy limitation when saturation effects and/or complex geometries have to be taken into account.…”

“…The Tooth Layer Specific Permeability (TLSP) method is an extremely typical combined analytical-numerical approach [1], [5], [6] , which mainly consists of four steps: Calculation of tooth layer magnetic parameters (such as tooth layer magnetic voltage drop, magnetic flux and tooth layer magnetic coenergy), establishment of a database for tooth layer magnetic parameters, construction and solution of the motor's nonlinear equivalent magnetic network, acquirement of electromagnetic torque as well as other behaviors of a stepping motor. In TLSP method, tooth layer shown in Fig.1, which is composed of the stator fine tooth, the air gap and the rotor fine tooth should be analyzed by FEM to acquire its magnetic parameters first of all, then, a database of magnetic parameters under different sizes of a tooth layer should be established [5] , which can be called in solution of the nonlinear equivalent magnetic network.…”

“…The new SHSM had a better performance but the higher production costs led to fewer applications. In recent years, many stepping motors with new structure have been designed [6][7][8].…”

“…The idea is to merge the two domains and to develop a global optimization approach for design and control by applying optimal control theory [12][13][14][15][16] and nonlinear optimization algorithms on magnetodynamic models of an electric machine. This work is applied on a hybrid stepper motor [17][18][19][20][21][22], to prove the feasibility of the approach on a realistic case.…”
