Comparison of blue pigments prepared by two different methods

Abstract: The color efficiency of ceramic glaze blue pigments obtained by synthesis methods was compared. the fired pigments and enameled samples were characterized by XRD, UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy, CIE-L*a*b* color-measurements, and SEM. The pigments obtained by the Pechini method presented a better solubility in the molten glazes than the pigments obtained by the mechanical mixture of the oxide precursors. The pigments obtained by the Pechini method also developed a bluer color hue than the pigments obtained by the mec… Show more

“…Therefore, it is very important to synthesize nanoparticles with desired sizes and properties. The common routes used for the synthesis of nanoparticles include sol-gel method [3,4], hydrothermal technique [5], polyol method [6], chemical vapor deposition [7], spray pyrolysis [8,9], pulsed laser deposition [10], high vacuum evaporation [11], and co-precipitation [12,13].…”

“…Figure 2c presents the X-ray diffraction pattern for AlCu10-P1 sample annealed at 1000 °C. Al 2 Colorimetric analyses according to the CIE-L*a*b* standard colorimetric method were performed for AlCu10 samples synthesized at different pH annealing temperatures, whose results are presented in Table 1. As can be seen, AlCu10 samples annealed at 600 and 800 °C exhibit negative values of colorimetric coordinates a* and b*, which is located in the third quadrant indicating a mixture of green and blue colors.…”

“…These parameters are modified through the changes in the coloring performance of pigments, that depends very much on their thermal stability, their chemical reactivity towards the glaze components, the coordination of host ions, and it also depends on the preparation methodology 2 . Many studies about nanoscale pigments has been achieved in the last years 3,4 .…”

“…This behaviour pointed to a progressive formation of the blue Sb 2 O 3 -SnO 2 solid solution [37]. However, the weight loss showed a sharp increase between 1100 °C and 1200 °C (Fig.…”
