Comparison of binding behavior for molecularly imprinted polymers prepared by hierarchical imprinting or Pickering emulsion polymerization

Abstract: The aim of this study was the evaluation of the binding performances and selectivity of molecularly imprinted beads prepared toward several penicillins (i) by hierarchical bulk polymerization in the pores of template-grafted silica microbeads (hMIPs) and (ii) by Pickering emulsion polymerization in the presence of template-decorated silica nanobeads (pMIPs). 6-Aminopenicillanic acid was chosen as the common fragmental mimic template. Both approaches produced micron-sized polymeric beads with good recognition p… Show more

“…So far, there had been many researches on the MIPs which were prepared by Pickering emulsion polymerization. 26,32,33 These MIPs were usually covered with a layer of solid particles which were used as stabilizers in emulsion. Here, the important function of solid particles was to stabilize the Pickering emulsion and facilitate the formation of spherical MIPs.…”

“…Ye and coworkers have used modified SiO 2 as a template for preparing MIP microspheres with well‐controlled hierarchical structures for the selective separation of β‐blockers , protein , and steroid . On the other hand, Baggiani and coworkers have used template‐decorated SiO 2 as a stabilizer for preparing MIP for penicillin. All the above‐mentioned MIPs prepared by the Pickering emulsion polymerization exhibited high recognition toward templates.…”
